Humorous Blog Names-Camera Boomer

Posted by Rosie on January 8, 2008

Camera Boomer is a funny name because in the minds of many young folks the two may not go together. Actually in the minds of some boomers the two names do not go together. I know I wrote about this blog before but just today saw the humor in the name.

I mean what does a camera boomer really look like? Are they walking around all the time with a camera around their neck or in their hands? Do they have an old world view of the world? Do they put photo shop touch ups on the gray, on the hips and around the lips?

The author of this blog, Artist, Ray Horner Jr., approaches his pictures with a youthful perspective. I mean if you dare to take a picture of bathroom urinals in the men’s room that is a hoot. He named it Take Your Best Shot. He could have been talking about the digital shot variation between two different cameras but I don’t think so.

He has another picture of the Grand Canyon that he calls The Color Purple. But you don’t see any of the cast from the Broadway show in the picture. Instead you see a breathtaking photo that you would not believe unless you saw it.

So check out the latest photos on the site since I last talked about it and find the funny for yourself. He is a really cool and gifted artist/photographer so you will not be disappointed. If you are I will give your money back! (Just kidding)

Is Mid Life A Trip?

Posted by Rosie on January 3, 2008

Mid life’s a Trip is the title of a blog by Karen Batchelor, life coach. When you go to her About section in her blog she states so well her current purpose driven mission. She says:

Midlife was my salvation because that’s when I got present to what I really want out of life. My inner Q&A helped me get in sync with my life purpose of helping others find a better way and led me to the profession of life coaching where I now help others get through the midlife trip. I now live life and post on this blog as the real me.

I wrote her statement in red because it almost matches the vibrant color on her site. I believe this is probably reflective of the live energy she shares with others as a life coach. You can tell by her blog posts that she is committed to helping boomers make life and career transitions.

Her blog posts started in September, 2007 so be sure to take time to review her well written reflective inside peeks at a sensitive strong woman.

I read a really touching and bitter sweet post that resonates with anyone who has an elderly person they love in their lives. She shares her deep felt visit to her mom with dementia called The Power of the Purse. This short but powerful post left me reflecting, not only on my current challenges with my mom and how she figures into my purpose driven life but also on friends I know going through the same thing.

She deals with so much on this site that lets you know that if you need a life coach that can understand where you are professionally and personally that Karen’s services just might be one of the best investments you could make.

Boomers TV

Boomers TV

This is a website for baby boomers and any one who wants more insights into some of the issues facing baby boomers. The site description states:

Boomers! Redefining Life After Fifty! is a production of Boomer Media Properties, Inc. and is hosted by a Boomer couple, former NBC correspondent Nancy Fernandez Mills, and her husband, Mark Mills, a seasoned broadcast financial journalist.

Boomers profiles real people and life situations
Boomers! is filmed in communities across the country. Each program has three feature stories, and shorter segments on health, personal finance, and lifestyles. Boomer trivia questions will be woven into the mix. While some episodes use graphics and music to invoke memories of the 50s and 60s, Boomers! is forward-looking and substantive, exploring the central life concerns facing the Boomer generation.

When you explore the site you will be able to view well done and interesting short movie clips. I viewed one on improving tips for improving the memory. There is also a page called web tv. This page has nine short entertaining clips covering the areas of travel, dating, wellness, career, housing, money, fitness and beauty. I was really touched by the segment on careers. It told the story of a boomer who is leaving a 30 year career to transition to another career as a Babtist minister.

There are coaches available via the site as well as an opportunity to purchase longer lengths of the videos. A blog is connected to the site which expands even further on baby boomer topics.  I left the site with a short message that I will put into practice once again next year. “Lift weights and you can lift your mood.”

This site is worth exploring if you want to get more insights into some of the issues facing today’s baby boomers.
