Hello, my name is Rosie Horner and I am a baby boomer. Whew, that wasn’t hard at all. But there are probably some other things I need to confess. What am I lying about? What truths do I need to face and fess up?

Ok, this is not a true confession post but an introduction to a powerful new baby boomer book by Beverly Mahone, founder of Boomer Diva Nation. Her book Don’t Ask and I Won’t Have to Lie will help you better understand the motivations behind the lies you tell and what you can do to live a more honest and meaningful life.

Yet, Beverly is clear in the very beginning, that it is not to replace the need for professional consultation if needed. But it sure helps you to think about some stuff you may be lying about.

I was especially stabbed in the gut when I read the section on lies we tell about tell about our health. That chapter
Lying Can Be Hazardous to your Health, confronts the lies we tell ourselves and health care provider.

Beverly addresses some common responses many of us may have to questions aimed at prevention of diseases. Think about it, have you given these answers when they were not true?

“I don’t drink” or “I don’t drink often.”

“I don’t smoke” or “I smoke less than a pack a
day.”

“I don’t do drugs.”

This chapter affected me personally because I am not dealing with my computer and stress weight like I should. Hence, I often hate going to the doctor to hear what I already know. One of my last visits I paid a doctor to conduct a role play session. I was the doctor and he played me. I gave him an interpretation of my blood work.

Yes, my fellow baby boomers, we know the questions and the answers for many facets of our lives. Yet, how often are we telling lies? I just love the way Beverly shares with such authentic and transparent honesty.

Beverly deals with issues related to our appearance, relationships plus more. You will be challenged and chastened. But you will not be disappointed to know that you are not alone in this big baby boomer world dealing with issues we can all relate to.

You can grab a copy of Don’t Ask and I Won’t Have to Lie Today! No Lie, it is worth your investment of time and money.

There is a super FAMILY MOVIE on Fox this Saturday, January 8, 2011t (8 PM, 7 Central), as part of Walmart and P&G’s Family Movie Night series.

Change of Plans tells the story of a young couple, Sally and Jason, whose lives are turned upside down when Sally’s best friend from college is killed in a tragic accident. Sally and Jason are forced to make some life-altering decisions when they discover that she has been named legal guardian to her friend’s four children, three of whom were adopted from third world countries. Change of Plans stars Brooke White (American Idol) and Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show) and according to the official website, portrays how “fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.” What a great discussion starter for you to engage your grandchildren around issues that are truly important.

Fellow baby boomers, how many of you remember viewing the opening of the Mickey Mouse Club House Show? I still can see my black and white TV with all those kids sitting down singing that song.

I don’t recall if I ever had any aspirations of being on the show. I never asked why there were no folks who looked like me on the show. I just liked the show and the song. It made you feel good.

I have been doing a lot on Ebay in my attempt to add to my pension fund and clean my attic. I noticed how many Mickey Mouse collectibles are present. I even added to the listings with some snow globes, video and soon to be posted Mickey Mouse doll.

So, if you ever want to re-connect to Mr. Mickey from “Back in the Day” check out some of those Ebay listings. Meanwhile let’s all sing that song. Why? Because we like you!

Ok, I admit that the only true joy of Super Bowl for me are the commercials. So, I decided to give them my own review. IT DOES NOT INCLUDE ALL OF THE COMMERCIALS. Here are the clips from the commercials I saw.

The Good

Bridgestone: The Bachelor Party

I think the car knew those guys had issues. That poor whale. If it wasn’t for the tires…

Hyundai: New Car

Real class act. Music, attention to detail, etc. Now, I would like to see a series to convince me to buy for more than the paint. How about that engine, safety, etc. But this was a great commercial to bring down the excitement level a wee bit.

Universal: Wolfman

Just makes me wonder if with all the special effect this wolfman will dodge that silver bullet. But then maybe a Bud Light will cure him.

Coke: Simpsons Moving

Does this ad mean to say that Coke has core values of friendship, diversity and economic revival? That coke has a higher vision? That Coke can take a lickin and keep on being Coke?Well Done!

Cars.com: Growing Up

Good, no great There site should have challenged their server.

The Bad

Tebow and Mom,

Ouch! Regardless how tough she is that had to hurt. Yep, she should be worried about him if he knocks her over like that for sport.

Boost Mobil: Super Bowl Shuffle

Who said football players couldn’t shuffle? They really can but think they needed more rehearsals. But who had time? Great drummer.

Bud Light: Light House

I just could not get past seeing the house get taken apart while everyone grabbed a beer. Would they rebuild the house after all the beer was gone with the empty cans? If they did it would be great for recycling.

Bud Light: Observatory

They had to be drinking something harder than Bud Light.

Universal: Robin Hood

Will anyone I know personally be in it? Is it too late to sign up as an extra? Will the DVD be out right away. Will he fight for theUniversal Health Plan?Soooo many questions unanswered in that clip/

Bud Light: Voice Box

Bud Light makes you sing in a voice you never knew you had. Wow!

Go Daddy: Danica Patrick

Should have had Betty White play the massage therapist. She could have started very lightly doing a massage. Then the client could say “Go deeper” and she could say, “No, dear Go Daddy never goes deeper into your pocket unless you ask” “But since you asked…

or

The massage therapist could have taken off her face and be someone older, then her shirt and be a man, then different things to show all the different folks who use Go Daddy. Right now all it makes me think is that Go Daddy is great for adult web sites?

The Insanely Funny

I like anything Betty White is in. Besides I am always happy to see seniors and boomers in video. She is quick, charming and funny. The line “playing like Betty White” was a downer. And you really need to see the clip more than once because of the quick scene change. After too many cupcakes you just might not get the fact that Betty White was supposed to be the player. DEEP

Doritos: The Dog Gets Revenge:

The dog taking off the collar and walking on hind legs was good. Now, I would have the dog push a dorito towards the guy to make him speak for it.

Doritos: Play Nice

Now the young player knows an old player when he sees one.

Monster.com:Beavers

Well done. Just wondered what happened to the beaver sweetheard who stood by him when he was just a hungry beaver. Who encouraged him, and fed him. Only for him to run off with the pretty face when he got fame and fortune. But well done with some funny moments.

Sketchers:Shape up

I know it wasn’t supposed to be funny but I kept waiting for the full figured folks to walk around in them. And also imagined folks wearing them to and from the refrig with super snacks.

Ok, that’s my take on the commercials. Please don’t ask me my views about the game. I was working on my website and watching old segments of The Outer Limits. But when the game was over, I had fun with these commercials.

So, what do you think? What was your take on the commercials.

I am an avid movie lover. I view, review and cite them in workshops and keynotes. But so often I look at a movie and decide on how I would create a different ending. For example, the movie I posted the other day Dodsworth had one of those endings most of us would cheer. I mean after all he had such a horrid time with his wife. Why shouldn’t he be happy with a lonely woman his age who appreciated his gifts?

Yet, I came up with an alternative, rather controversal new ending. It goes something like this:

His selfish, self-centered and cheating wife goes home alone after he leaves her for another woman. While on the cruise ship she meets a dynamic baby boomer grandmother who provides some character building advice. The woman goes home and gets trained to be a therapist. Her clients are emerging baby boomer women with a need for a new perspective on life.

Later she becomes remarried and before the film is over actually apologizes to her daugher and hubby.

So, that is my version but do you have movies you would provide a different ending?
