This morning I decided to put on a pair of my mom’s favorite boots to walk in the snow to church. My mom loved these boots that I brought for her almost a year ago. But if you knew my mom she was not a shoe person so these are just one of two pair of boots she owned.

Mom passed on December 20, 2011 at the age of 84. Putting on her boots made me reflect on something said at her homegoing service about “walking the talk.” She took many children from her housing development, “Little Bricks” to Sunday School and she always tried to not just talk about God’s love but reflect in in her actions.

Sometimes after church she wanted to take the children out to eat. She tried to be there for them. So you have to know that tears came to my eyes when I saw some of them attend and speak at her service. It still brings tears to my eyes as I type this. But must wipe them because I can’t see good.

She was a woman of action and when I gave my remarks at the funeral I used a word mnemonic SARAH.

S-SHARING

A-Action (She always tried to help folks)

R-REAL (She kept it real)

A-Attitude of gratitude and Attitude of trust in the Lord

H-Healing through laughter

I spoke and used short illustrations of each point. Perhaps I will share in another post. I may also share the eulogy my husband did.But putting on these boots today reminded me so many sweet memories and a powerful legacy. I only hope that I remain faithful and as much of a woman of action.

As her memory became more challenged after a brain stroke I started writing notes to her around her apartment. I once wrote a note and placed it on her mirror, “God still has a lot for you to do”. She told me that she often read it and thanked me.

I know that she has a burial ground spot but I am not there everyday so I have placed her at rest in my heart.

For those of you who would like a copy, here is the funeral program for Sarah Calhoun.

I am spending more time looking at financial issues that never had my attention 30 years ago. So blogs like Budgeting Boomers is right on time. In addition I am in avid admiration for her efforts to help her mom. Prior to my mom’s passing last month my financial goals included caregiving for her.

Read the About Page for this insightful site.

Hi, I’m Lisa and I am a 50 something Baby Boomer. I am married to my Knight in Shining Armor and I have a 26 yo daughter and a 20 yo daughter. My oldest daughter is married to a wonderful Air Force officer, my youngest daughter is in college and my mother lives with my husband and me. I left the traditional work world to open a business from home so that I could be here more for my mother.

Going from a good income to a new business made things a little tight around here and meant that it was time to whip out my penny saving tactics. I have always been a frugal shopper but I needed to go one step further. I have found some great ways to save and I would like to share them with others that could and would use them. I hope this blog will help you save money and get closer to a happy retirement.

So often I ask someone “How are you?” and their reply may be a deep sigh and “I’m hanging in there” or “I’m doing”, and I ‘m going”.

Better to be Hanging Than Hung, Doing than Done, Going than Gone-My Thanksgiving Quote.

So often I ask someone “How are you?” and their reply may be a deep sigh and “I’m hanging in there” or “I’m doing”, and I ‘m going”.

So as I reflected on those responses I decided to apply the “glass half-full” approach (mostly for my own mental health). The idea of hanging on sounds better when you realize that you could be hung by the negative circumstances surrounding you.

If you are still going one despite efforts to keep you back by others than that is far better than being gone. Why?, because when you cease to exist it does not always provide a solution to the issues.

In addition, if you keep doing, if you keep working on your purpose then it gives you an opportunity to flame your passion. The reason you started “doing” in the first place. Are you already done? I don’t think so.

So, right now my life is saturated with it’s own unique drama. Yet as I think of all that I can be THANKFUL FOR, it edges out a whole lot of room for HOPE.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving. And if you don’t celebrate the holiday, that is okay but do give THANKS wherever you are.

<del></del>

As I sat at my computer attempting to absorb the changes on my Facebook profile and home page I was like a deer caught in the headlights. I sat with amazement feeling l was invading someone’s privacy as I looked at the ticker tape CNN style newsfeed on my right. But that’s a minor concern. I needed to know how the changes would impact my business plans Facebook.

Then I saw an announcement, from one of my Facebook friends about a webinar on Google +. I am ready to learn. I will not abandon Facebook yet but I like having more than one hole to go to for sharing possible business activities. Will Google + help me when I am ready to launch my Ebay training webinars? Will Google+ help with other business ventures?

What about you? Can Google + be a nice alternative when you tire of Facebook? Will other baby boomers start populating the site?

Here is an excellent blog post about Google+ and how it may attract many members currently on Facebook with a business. I just hope that the navigation is easy. Anything wrong with that or am I showing my age?
