Boomer Inventory Challenge-Online Attic Part 3

Posted by Rosie on August 9, 2009

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series Baby Boomer Inventory Challenge

It sometimes find it hard to throw things out in my Online Attic. Yet some things just must go to the super waste bag in the garbage can.

This week I threw away a social networking site I signed up for a great while ago. Since then it seems to have changed not just it’s template.  Tagworld is not a site I want to continue to hang out in for now. Why, well, a few of their videos are ok and informative but it appears that most of the videos and discussions are ,well,  you need to assess it for your self. I just did not find enough solid business information to hold me captive.

As with all social networking sites, you want to determine a social networking plan before you go into the site. I can always re-evaluate the site later but for now, since they threw out my login details with the new interface, I can throw it out.

I also found a site,  brushed it off, and installed it on a second computer. That was Skype. It is really great for getting in contact with folks overseas or just in another State. Now, it has a lot of features. So it is worth exploring.

I just have not used it lately because I am working on my laptop more than my desktop. But that is going to change also. I am doing more healthy computing for my posture, neck and arms on the desktop. Oh, the Ben-Gay.

Finally, I re-visited a revenue sharing video site that I have many videos showing. If you click on the ads at the end of the videos you get a percentage of the “Google Like Ads”. So far I have a whooping $2.00 and a few cents.

Oh, the name of the site is Revver. I like it and will move it to the first floor. That means I will post more videos up.  It will be just like throwing rice on the wall, some of it just got to stick.

That’s all for the current challenge. It appears that I will be doing this longer than 4 weeks. I am only making a dent in the stuff on my Online Attic.

How have you been doing? Finding anything interesting?

Inventory Challenge Week 1 Report-Just Like Cleaning My Attic

Posted by Rosie on July 24, 2009

I have had painful fun doing meeting my own Inventory Challenge. I am comparing it to the work that must be done in my attic. Some things can be pulled out and used, sold or trashed. Below are some of the things I have done:

  • I revisited the blogging directory I joined called Blogged and added more blogs. There are still more to add. I discovered that one blog I have, Baby Boomer Pocket Change does not get accepted by any of the two blog directories I have attempted to submit them to. Think it looks too much like a static site or too commercial looking. But need to work on that. So far have some fomre folks following me and I am following more on Blogged. USE
  • I set up my hubby into an artist discussion board but that was such a long time ago. So, I just reminded him about it, sent the info and he can decide if you wants to stay involved or not. But right now this can be removed from my inventory attic. TRASH
  • Revisited a site called PodCast Ready.   Now this one I am going to keep for now but I need to get some HELP
  • I reviewd a note about upgrading my web cam. It did not mean a lot then but now because of Boomer Diva Tv, I will probably do more webcams. I am going to upgrade. Check out the reccomended camera;

I have decided to sell some of my domain names. Yes, I know sounds awful doesn’t it? But note that domain names are just like real estate. Sometimes you desire to sell some of your property. Someone wrote me and with great concern said, “Why are you selling your domain names?” I explained that I was not using them or planned to use them in the future.  Now, don’t get me wrong you should hold on to some domain names for affiliate use, future sites, or redirects. But sometimes you may decide to SELL.

  • I saw where I signed up for Ublog2 When I went to the site it had an annoucement tha Wordpress was now on Version 2.0. Now that was old. So, TRASH
  • I have begun the process of transitioning from one of my host sites. I will not mention which one it is. But they are a nightmare for blogs but great for static sites. I tried to set up a blog with them and their instructions were wrong and their easy to set up blog script provides a horrible 2.2 version of Wordpress. TRASH
  • I am transferring my static brochure speaking website to a blog site format starting next week. Why? Because it will be so much easier to update the pages. finally

  • I started my Zumba Classes again. Why, because I needed to move away from this computer more often.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT MY ATTIC, HOW HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH YOUR INVENTORY CHALLENGE?

Boomer Challenge-Step Back and Take Inventory of Your Online Activities

Boomer Online Challenge I Dare You to Take For the Next 4 Weeks!

Sometimes we need to be like those line dances when it comes to our online activites. You know the ones that tell you to slide to the left, slide to the right go back and THEN jump forward.

Today I received a very interesting email from a blogging directory. Now, I admit that I recognized the name but became a wee bit skeptical when they told me that one of my blogs was rated 9 out of 10 by their editors. So, I decided to pay the site a visit.

Yes, I was there with two blogs. But I had run it set up the blogs on the site and had not returned. I even wrote a post about them in a series on blog directories.

Now what is my point? Well I have lots of sites I have signed up for in the days when I was thinner blogger. I have also many social bookmarking sites that I have signed up for and neglected. Let’s not talk about some of my blogs that may be dying of malnutrition.

So here is my challenge for you and myself. If you have not revisited some of your old online sites then let’s stop and do it at least  two hours a week for the next four weeks.  Report your activities every Friday until August 14, 2009.
You can share your progress as a comment or email me with a guest post rosiehorner(at)gmail.com

I believe we will all be the richer for doing this inventory. Plus, we can help each other. What do you say? Are you ready to dance?
